Buildings and amenities
St Stephen’s House itself enjoys excellent grounds and buildings (many of
them Grade 1 listed), with a beautiful chapel and church, linked by the quiet
serenity of the cloister gardens. There are also large communal gardens with
a brick-built barbecue, picnic benches and a lawn that is ideal as a play
area for children. A number of small kitchens are situated throughout the
college for use by students occupying college rooms. Students have the benefit of a generous common room, with bar, television
and audio-visual equipment.
The college kitchens provide three meals a day in the week, brunch on Saturdays
and breakfast and a more formal lunch on Sundays. Families are welcome at
all meals, and members of the House often entertain other guests, too. Thursday
evenings are designated as guest evenings, to which visitors are especially
welcome: a three-course dinner is followed by coffee in the Common Room and
a social evening in the college bar.
