Courses for Ordinands

The following courses are available for ordinands:

Three-year courses

Candidates for ordination who are under the age of thirty-two and do not have a first degree in theology undertake one of the following three-year courses as part of their formation at St Stephen’s House:

Two-year courses

Candidates for ordination who already have a first degree in theology, and all those over the age of thirty-two, generally undertake one of the following two-year courses as part of their formation at St Stephen’s House:

Without a degree in theology

With a degree in theology

Certificate in Theology
Diploma in Theological and Pastoral Studies
Bachelor of Theology (BTh) 2+2

Certificate for Theology Graduates (Two-Year Version)
Master of Theology (MTh) in Applied Theology

One-year courses

The following are often combined with another qualification (e.g. the BA in Theology), but may be suitable in exceptional circumstances for those ordinands on a one-year course:

Further Degrees for Ordinands
Some candidates, if they show promise as potential theological educators, may be permitted to undertake work for higher degrees (such as MSt, MPhil or DPhil) while in training. This permission has to be sought by the candidate’s diocese through the Recruitment and Selection Committee (RSC) of the Ministry Division, after discussion with the academic staff at St Stephen’s House.
